With many of us working from home remotely, the lines between work and home life have blurred. We often start the day responding to email and then move between video calls without always taking time for a proper break. Over time, this can have a big impact on our mental health and wellbeing, and also on our motivation and productivity at work. In this 30-minute experiential session, you will learn simple rituals and mindfulness techniques to help you manage your energy and focus throughout the day, and techniques to appreciate the moment.

Key takeaways include:

  • Learn a simple exercise that you can do at the start and of every day to get you prepared for the day ahead.
  • Gain useful techniques on managing your workload and organising yourself

Ensuring demand from the market and continuing to seek feedback is critical to building a business. Build and leverage your network. Reach out to experts in your industry for advice. They will help you; they may even become your customers or investors. In this session Wendy Slattery and Angela Duffy discuss how important it is to validate your idea with potential customers from the beginning. Listen to guidance from advisors and those who have taken the entrepreneurial journey before you. Those who fund your business may not have an investor title; they may be people from the industry that see the value you can create.

Key takeaways include:-

  • Validate your idea with potential customers first.
  • Don't be shy on going global and reaching out to high-level customers.
  • Listen to mentors who have done it before.

Despite the fact that by every measure of academic success and measurement, girls outperform boys, the relative absence of women and girls in STEM careers has been the topic of debate and analysis for over a decade. But despite this – the hours of debate, the media coverage, the white papers written and published – the dial has barely moved. For example in the UK we have the lowest percentage of women working in engineering – less than 11% of that workforce is female. Less than 5% actually have an engineering qualification. It has never mattered more. As we progress through the current crisis two things are becoming alarmingly clear. Firstly is that women’s careers and jobs are being disproportionately affected. Secondly that if we are to tackle the effects of Covid we need to radically increase not decrease the pool of talent, ideas and creativity that we are looking to for answers.

Key takeaways

  • What can we do as individuals to reverse the damage Covid-19 has had on the female workforce?
  • What can we do collectively to improve our representation?
  • What can business leaders do to accelerate this change?
  • Why reducing the gender gap is not only good for the economy but society as a whole.
